Recipients of the ASM Hartford Chapter
2008 Scholarships were recognized on April 9, 2008 at the University
of Connecticut School of Engineering Awards Banquet. Shown from the
left are Dr. Leon Shaw (past ASM/TMS Chapter Advisor), Dr. Sam Christy
(ASM Hartford Chair), Alexander Williams, James Bosse, Kevin Rankin (a
2005 recipient, who was recognized at the banquet with an Engineering
Outstanding Senior Award for MSE), Julie Ann Mackey, Arnie Grot
(past ASM Hartford Chair) and Rainer Hebert (Materials Advantage
Chapter Advisor).

Burc Misirlioglu (left) was recognized
with the 2008 Doctoral Thesis Award on April 9, 2008 at the University
of Connecticut School of Engineering Awards Banquet. In 2005 as a
student, Dr. Misirlioglu took first place with a
presentation based on his thesis research on Stress Relaxation and
Phase Transformations in Ferroelectric Heterostructures at
the ASM Hartford Chapter Student
Night competitions. In June 2006, Burc started
postdoctoral work at the Max-Plank Institute in Germany. He is
currently a Postdoctoral Associate in the Department of Nuclear
Science and Engineering at MIT in Cambridge, MA. Show with Burc is his
major advisor, Professor S. Pamir Alpay.

President
(a)
The Vice President shall plan to maintain a strong
organization and thus continue the objectives of ASM during
the following year.
(b)
The Vice President shall recommend all appointments for the
following year to each Committee, including the Chairman, to
take effect by and with the approval of the Board. He/She
shall perform such other duties as are delegated to him/her by
the President or the Board.
(c) The Vice President shall perform the duties of the
President in case of the absence of the President or the
inability of the President to act. |
