Letter from The chairperson

Dear Members:

April is Material’s Week in CT.  We have requested that the professional societies in CT join us in celebrating this event.  What better way than to think of the future of materials and the new frontier of space than to have Dr. Roger Crouch, NASA Astronaut and Lead Scientist for the International Space Station, visit us in Hartford.  Also attending will be Mr. Don Rethke, (a.k.a., Dr. Flush) of Hamilton Sunstrand with a demonstration of the H-S Space Suit. Both Dr. Crouch and Mr. Rethke will lead discussions about their work with students from UCONN and area high schools.

Applications for our annual scholarship award are available from Arnie Grot or our Web Site.  This scholarship is open to any high school senior or undergraduate college student for study in the field of metallurgy or material science.  If you know of any one that qualifies, please have them call Arnie or myself for an application.

ASM also has a summer camp for interested materials minded students.  Contact Stu Weiss for details.

Anyone wishing to become active and participate in chapter affairs should contact any member of the present board.  Our chapter needs members to stay active and healthy.  Join a winning team.

With best regards,

Harley Gaimes
