The
Hedgehog Council – Exploration of Core Competencies
Summary
of our Journey
July
25, 2005
“Taking
deliberate action to influence your outcomes and achieve what you want
presents a more challenging path. Those who take it are the exception.
They’re the ones who succeed – the only ones,” writes Michael
Kerrigan in his book “What
Choice Do I Have?”
For those
needing help in committing to a life purpose, Kerrigan suggest taking
the time to answer these four questions:
·
Who am I?
·
What are my
expectations of me?
·
What are my
responsibilities?
·
What are my
connections?
Last
year, the Hartford Chapter’s Executive Committee committed to an
exploration of our Chapter’s uniqueness and purpose within ASM
International. Who
we are (G2G: What we are really good at): We postulated
that our chapter serves our members and our organization as a conduit
for sharing and assimilating materials information on a local and
personal level. Our
expectations (G2G: What we are deeply passionate about):
We do so by providing networking opportunities for our individual and
chapter sustaining members. Our responsibilities (G2G: What
people will pay for): These opportunities include our
technical meetings, social events, student outreach programs,
information in the Marcorgram
and on the Chapter’s website, and leadership growth in the organizing,
planning and conducting chapter affairs and events as directed by the
chapter’s Executive Committee.
Our connections (G2G: What our
conscience does counsel): The Executive Committee decided
upon the number of contacts initiated by members through chapter
initiatives as the measure of our chapter’s success. Membership,
participation in our functions, meeting attendance and inquiries to our
officers are directly measurable. Less tangible are the networking
contacts made between members for mutual benefit at, or by members to
ASM International from, or as a result of a chapter initiative.
The Hartford Chapter is committed to helping you enhance your
materials career by getting the most from your ASM membership. What
Choice Do You Have? All you need to do is ask.
