Letter from The
chairperson Dear Members: We have reached the halfway point on this years Chapter agenda. The second half of the year promises to be very interesting and exciting for our membership. Next month, Mr. Andrew Nicoll, ASM International Trustee, will visit the Hartford Chapter. Every year we make it a goal to have an ASM International Trustee speaker visit our chapter. We are very proud this year to have Mr. Nicoll take the time to visit us and learn about our Chapter. Mr. Nicoll will speak on thermal spray processing, a field in which he has vast knowledge and experience. Also in March, we will send judges to the annual Connecticut Science Fair to award prizes to two of Connecticut middle and high school competitors. As I mentioned last month, in April we are looking forward to having Roger Crouch, NASA astronaut and Chief Scientist for the International Space Station talk to our group in conjunction with Materials Week in Connecticut. We are hoping that Governor Rowland will attend to present the formal declaration. We will be holding that meeting at UCONN and will enable those who have not had a chance to tour the UCONN materials department to do so. In May, we will again hold our annual UCONN Student speakers night with students competing for prizes as they describe their materials research work. If your company wishes to become a Sustaining Member of the Hartford Chapter, please contact Arnie Grot or Stu Weiss. They will describe the benefits of membership. Anyone wishing to be added to the e-mail distribution of this newsletter can do so by contacting Arnie Grot at ArnieG1457@aol.com Check out the Hartford Chapter Website at www.asm-hartford.org. See you in February. With best regards, Harley Gaimes Executive Committee
