Abstract:
Tiffany & Co. has been manufacturing fine jewelry for over 150 years and in the last three years has focused on expanding it’s capability and capacity to fulfill the significant growth in demand seen since 1990. This presentation will review the traditional manufacturing techniques: investment casting, cleaning, assembly, polishing and setting. Additionally, Tiffany is exploring new technologies borrowed from other industries in order to further improve our product quality and design capability. Added benefits are reduced costs and improved product availability

About the Speaker:
Henry Boyton received his B.S. in Metallurgical Engineering from Polytechnic Institute of N.Y. in 1983. He went on to receive his MBA from the University of Bridgeport in 1990. He started his career with Texas Instruments in Attleboro Mass. as a Product Engineer in their bimetal products lines. Later he held positions with Grumman Aircraft Systems and Handy and Harman where he became Marketing Manager of Industrial Products. Mr. Boyton has worked with Tiffany & Co. since 1995 as Plant Manager for their new Pelham manufacturing facility. He is married with two children and resides in Stamford. When not manufacturing jewelry, he spends his time coaching youth sports.

Letter from The chairperson

Dear Chapter Members:

I want to personally thank all the members who attended the January technical meeting. It was the largest audience that I can ever remember for a standard monthly dinner meeting. We appreciate The Torrington Co. sponsoring the evening social hour.

A special thanks to John Morral and to the UCONN students who displayed posters representing their work in the field of metallurgy. We look forward to a joint meeting with the Student Chapter in May.

1998 – 99 Scholarship applications are available. We will present a $1000 prize to the most qualified candidate at our May meeting. Contact Harley Grimes, (860) 522-3123, or me for more information.

We are still looking for Chapter members to give a little bit of their time in assisting the Executive Board. Please call me if you are interested in participating in any form or fashion.

Please note the deadlines for meeting reservations listed in your Macrogram. The Troutbrook wants to ensure enough food to feed the hungry crowd but the Chapter does not want to pay for any dinners above and beyond the "final " count. Your confirmed reservation is requested by 5PM the day prior to the meeting.

The Materials Week celebration will be the week of April 18. We are in need of sponsors for various activities. Call me if you are interested in being recognized as a sponsor.

Looking forward to seeing new and familiar faces at the February meeting!

Sincerely,
Linda Thomas - Chairperson Hartford Chapter
