Abstract:

This will be an informative yet humorous look at the world of brazing as it compares to other joining processes such as welding, soldering, and adhesive bonding.  Meeting attendees will enjoy learning about brazing's usefulness from silverware to aerospace, and which frontiers it will likely attack in the 21st century.

About the Speaker:

Speaker:  Dan Kay, who operates his own brazing consulting business here in Connecticut, received his Bachelor of Metallurgical Engineering degree from Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute in 1966, and his MBA from Michigan State University in 1982. He has been involved full-time in brazing for more than 25-years. He spent seven years with Handy & Harman, where he not only taught their torch-brazing seminars, but spent a lot of time in the field helping customers solve both torch and induction brazing problems. From there he went to Wall Colmonoy Corporation in Detroit, where for fifteen years he worked closely with furnace brazing operations around the world, both atmosphere and vacuum. During this time he authored a very successful brazing newsletter for his employer that went out to thousands of people around the world. Dan has also written many articles on brazing over the years that have appeared in magazines, handbooks and journals.

Letter from The chairperson

Dear Members:

Welcome to the start of the chapter year, and to the opportunities and challenges as we face the new millenium. Thanks to the stewardship of our past chairman, the chapter continues as a viable community of materials professionals.

As we move forward, there is a need to re-assess the health of our chapter.  Due to a changing business landscape over the last decade, the needs of our membership have no doubt changed.  To be relevant, our chapter has to fit in with the changes that have occurred and to fill the needs of the membership.

Your executive committee is committed to building a stronger chapter that represents your views and needs.  In order to be more effective, we need to hear from you! Please feel free to contact any of the executive committee to express your views regarding how both your local and national ASM can serve you better.

Our commitment to the chapter is to represent you as a stronger and more diverse executive committee that can better respond to your views and needs. Steps have been taken to increase committee membership, but newcomers are welcome!  I invite you to contact me personally, through the phone number in this announcement, or by e-mail at josephk300@aol.com.

We look forward to your help in building a stronger and more responsive professional community, where the benefits of membership reach beyond receiving monthly mailings and announcements.

Please schedule in a monthly meeting and support our efforts. Best wishes, and we look forward to seeing you!

With best regards,
Joe Kubinski
