The focus is on recognizing our individual and sustaining members and those students who directly benefited through association with ASM Hartford. The list is extensive. Look to the June 8 meeting description for more details. We are especially pleased that this summer we are sponsoring our fifth successful high school student applicant to attend Materials Camp in its five year history. Please meet them in celebration. Our
May 20 meeting is also our Annual
Meeting. Jointly with the Southern Connecticut Chapter we offer
the opportunity to tour the Waterbury Brass Mill. In the technical
presentation after dinner, Mr. John Turley, Vice
President - Engineering & R&D, T. Sendzimir, Inc., Chapter
leaders have established a head start on several events for
2004-2005. The Hartford Chapter 2004
Annual Golf Outing will be another Classic. Rebecca Gatzen has
booked a shotgun start at Blackledge Country Club in We
are jointly sponsoring an intersociety technical symposium, The Hydrogen Economy, Fuel Cells and the Environment, that will
address leading edge engineering, technical, environmental, and
economic issues associated with the use of hydrogen as a fuel for
motive and stationary power systems, and fuel cells with high
efficiency fuel energy conversion capabilities. The symposium will be
September 30 to October 2. More details of the symposium appear it
the meeting description section of this newsletter. To help achieve our mission of providing
technical knowledge, education, networking and professional
development we are introducing the
ASM Hartford Apprenticeship/Mentor Program. Individuals, companies and the Chapter
will benefit from the broad knowledge of materials issues and
contacts obtained through this program. We are presently building a
list of tours and workshops that will be part of the program. More

The ASM Hartford winter
meetings were rousing successes. Dr. Martin Blackburn gave us
insights into the rising potential of Metallic
Glasses at our January meeting. We were saddened with
the passing Martin of in March. He was always comfortable both
attending and presenting at our meetings. His insights into materials
issues will be missed. Dr. Reza Abbaschian, FASM, ASM Trustee
traveled from the University of Florida in February to give us an Overview
of Advanced Materials, assess and help focus chapter operations
