National Trustee Visit on January 25, 2000


This visit by Dr. Michael J. DeHaemer, Managing Director of ASM International has two parts.

Location: Radisson Hotel, Cromwell, CT.  860-635-2000.
Directions: From I-91 north or south, exit 21, left at end of the exit, Radisson shortly on left.

Part 1: Workshop

The Hartford and Southern Connecticut Chapters of ASM International are sponsoring a workshop with Dr. Michael J. DeHaemer, Managing Director of ASM International on Tuesday, January 25, 2000. The workshop's focus is on enhancing "Materials Information Flow" within the Connecticut materials sector (Companies, Academia and Professional Societies).

Knowing the importance of materials and material processes to the success of your business, I am certain that you will want to ensure that a representative of your company attends. There is no charge for the workshop.

The Chapters officers will discuss with Dr. DeHaemer Chapter operations (see
Chapter Visit Report), review ASM International's support of Chapters, promote successes, detail collaboration, identify concerns and provide feedback directly to our Managing Director. It is expected that the Chair, Vice Chair, Secretary and Treasurer of each Chapter attend. Other members of the Executive Committees are encouraged to attend (we would like to see 90+% participation). Dr. Shaw, the faculty advisor, of the UCONN Student Chapter, and Dr. Morral, the head of the Department of Metallurgy and Materials Engineering at UCONN, are invited to participate.

Dr. Michael J. DeHaemer, Managing Director of ASM International
The speaker, Captain, USN (retired) served on 7 different submarines, completed 14 Polaris/Poseidon patrols, including 6 patrols as the commanding officer of USS Simon Bolivar (SSBN-641). He will give his personal perspective of life aboard a submarine from the routine of daily life to working for Admiral H. G. Rickover, "Father of Nuclear Navy." The FBM patrol cycle and a trial launch of two C-4 Poseidon missiles will be discussed. How realistic was the movie "Hunt for Red October?" an other frequently asked questions will be covered. Questions from the audience will be encouraged.
